The first-ever exhibition of modern art in Australia is now open, with the Stirling Museum’s gift of modern works of art as its inspiration.
The Stirling Art Gallery, located at the edge of the northern city of Stirling, opened in 1879.
It’s a large collection of artworks dating from the 1800s and the 1900s.
The artworks were originally created by the artisans who worked in the art gallery, and were kept in storage in the Stirlings art museum until it opened in the 1930s.
Its founder, the late John Farrar, said he wanted to create a museum that would bring the arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries to the people of Stirling, in the Northern Territory.
“We wanted to show the people the art of the people, the art that is still going on and being created,” he said.
“The people of the Northern Territories know what they’re looking at, but they don’t really know the work that’s been done by these people.”
The collection includes work by Charles Dickens, Louis Degas, and others, as well as some of the most popular artworks from the 19th century.
“What we did was, we didn’t want to be a museum but we wanted to do something that the people could go to and look at,” Mr Farrard said.
“It was to create something that would be a gateway to something else.”
Mr Farrars collection includes more than 3,000 works.
Art history is a topic of considerable interest in Australia, with many artists being celebrated and revered in the country.
In particular, the museum has been a home to the artworks of Australian artists such as William Burroughs, Edward Hopper, George Cushing, and John Coltrane.
“I’ve seen the works of William Burrows paintings in a museum,” Mr Hines said.
“She’s sitting in a rocking chair and she’s got a very long black dress with the neck open, and it’s the first time I’ve seen her dress.” “
The art is currently on display at the museum, and Mr Fars museum will host an exhibition on the collection at its next Art Museum International conference later this month. “
